Fishing in Ontario: Which Season is Best?

We are always asked, "When is the best time of the year to plan a fly-in fishing trip?" As with most places in Ontario and across Canada, the answer is, anytime from ice-out in May to the freeze-up in late October. The fishing is always good in our remote fly-in outpost lakes, although fishing techniques may vary with the time of year. When planning a fishing trip with your family, you may find that July and August are the most suitable months because of the weather and the water temperature for swimming.

Catch and Release Fishing

Catch and Release Fishing

Nestor Falls Fly-In was one of the first Outposts operations in northern Ontario to implement a catch and release policy as not to overstress the fishery. That visionary policy has served our operation well throughout the years as we continue to enjoy world-class fishing and significant repeat business from our guests. Every year the average size of the fish goes up as well as the numbers of fish caught. What the catch and release means is that you may keep your conservation limit of fish under the legal size limit to eat while you are at the lake but you may not take home any fish or any trophies from the our lakes. Our goal here at Nestor Falls Fly-In is to provide all of our guests with the trip of a lifetime.
