3 Generations Fishing at Nestor Falls Fly-In
July 20, 2017
“Papa” Dave Drake and his family have been fishing at Nestor Falls Fly-In Outposts for 12 years. They brought a 3-generation group up to Herod Lake, including Papa Drake plus his sons, grandson, two nephews and his brother’s son-in-law. The group comes from Ohio, Texas, Florida, and Colorado, meets at the Minneapolis airport to drive up to the base in Nestor Falls together. (It only took 5 hours this year!)
The weather started off cold and ended hot with a thunderstorm in between. They didn’t locate the usual large schools of Walleye at Herod but had plenty of fish to eat and kept the Walleye limit for eating. Papa Drake said they caught 6 Walleye over 20″ and returned them all for breeding stock, so look for those monsters on your trip to Herod!
The group caught a Whitefish, too – an unusual catch at Nestor Falls Fly-In!
Herod Lake has a huge fire pit, which the Drake Family enjoyed late into the night. Hosting a family like Papa Drake’s in the Canadian wilderness is always the highlight of our week! We missed you Steve and hope that you are recovering.
