Before and After: The Cabin on Herod Lake

April 25, 2016

Nestor Falls Fly-In is deep in Canada’s wilderness ‚Äì but that doesn’t mean you have to “rough it!” We’ve spent the last 10 or so years remodeling each of our cabins to go above and beyond what fly-in fishermen expect at an outpost.

Take a look at the old cabin on Herod Lake. It served us well for many years but Dave and I had finally decided it needed an upgrade in about 2007. The cabin was in the best spot on the lake however so we built a more spacious cabin right next door! Like our other outpost cabin, the new place on Herod has hardwood floors, a full kitchen and larger living area, and water to have a hot shower. What a change from that old vinyl floor and indoor patio chairs!

The cabin is now a beautiful place to relax. I think we love the deck most, it’s a great place to enjoy breakfast in the morning or a cold beer at the end of the day.

The old cabin still has a place in our hearts, so we left it standing on Herod Lake for nostalgia’s sake. And ‚Äì it would’ve taken us weeks of non-stop work to tear down the cabin and fly the materials back to our base!

Escape to the Wilderness,
Dave & Michelle
