How to Pack for Your Fly-In Fishing Trip
June 22, 2015
If you’re preparing for an upcoming Nestor Falls visit, here’s a couple lists that might help you along. It’s important to note that each person is only allowed to bring 100 pounds of gear, including clothes and food! Not to worry ‚Äì it can be done.
Clothes
Keep in mind that you’ll be out fishing, not on a cruise. You don’t need to bring everything, just the basics! Here’s what you might pack in a duffel for a 4-5 day trip:
– 2 pairs of pants
– 2 pairs of shorts
– 2 short-sleeve shirts
– 1 long-sleeve shirt or sweatshirt
– Socks, underwear
– Sneakers
– Boots
– Good quality rain suit
– Jacket, gloves – depending on the time of year
– Bath towel, washcloth
– Sleeping bag
– Flashlight
‚Äì Medications ‚Äì pack extra, in case you’re weathered in!
– Suntan lotion, bug spray
Food
To plan your grocery list, it’s helpful to create a menu first. We find that most of our guests plan for two meals a day, plus snacks. When you’re at the grocery store, whether it’s here or at home, pick up food with weight in mind: frozen vegetables weigh less than canned vegetables, juice powder packets over cans or bottles. It’s best to purchase chicken and eggs in Ontario, since you’re not able to bring those items across the US-Canada border.
If you’re able, use two small coolers instead of one big one. You can pack just as much food, but the smaller coolers are much easier to carry. (Plus, you can bring a small cooler on the boat for your drinks and snacks.)
If you could use advice from other anglers, post your questions on our Nestor Falls Fly-In Facebook page!
