It’s Not Too Soon to Think About Muskie Fishing!

It’s not too soon to start thinking about next season ‚Äì especially Muskie fishing.

“Best bet is to fish when a storm is coming in,” our son Jon will tell you. You can’t control the weather, but you can make sure you’re fishing at the right outpost!

Kay Lake has Muskie and you have good odds to catch one that’s 36-50″ ‚Äì a real monster.

Dave and I asked our son Jon, for some good Muskie fishing tips. It does depend a lot on the weather, of course, but here’s his basic top 5:

• Work the weed beds
• Work the rocky reefs
• Start out casting; if you’re not catching Muskie casting, then you should troll
• Keep your bait in the water; do figure-8s at the end of your cast
• Plan to use baits that go down deeper; Muskie aren’t always in the shallows

Muskie is “the fish of 1,000 casts.” When you get to Kay, look for any vegetation laid out in the water, along with isolated rocky outcrops to start working. Muskie are picky, and they only eat when have to.

It’s going to be a long, quiet day, so might want to throw a cooler in the boat!
