Jon Reviews Fishing Gear: Rain Suits
March 29, 2019
There are many quality rain suits on the market today and we are going to go over the pro and con of these rain suits to help you make a choice on your fishing equipment.
Cabela’s Guidewear / The Bass Pro 200 MPH
For the first review we will be doing the Cabela’s Guidewear and the Bass Pro 200 MPH gear. Now you may be asking why this is a two for one, and it’s because the suits are the exactly the same and they cost the same 349.99.
Pros:
This suit is a great cold weather suit for the spring and fall when the weather is at it worst. It is a great water proof suit for a little to medium rain. It also great on the windy cold days it deflects the wind with and outer shell and wind-proof zippers.
Cons:
The suit is not very breathable on the warm days of summer. It also has some trouble with the days of mid to hard rains – the type of rains that the die-hard fishermen go out in. Overall, it’s a good suit for the money.
Simms Challenger
The Simms Challenger comes in with a price point of 299.95.
Pros:
This is the only suit on the last that is made in North America and is a family owned business. This has to be the only complete rain suit that I have ever owned that has never felt wet at any point of a rain storm. And I have been in a few rain storms that I shouldn’t have been in. This is the first rain suit that I have been able to wear through the entire season ‚Äì from the warmest rains to the coldest days on the water.
Cons:
This suit only comes in limited colors.
Gill Tournament Jacket:
Last but not least is the Gill Tournament Jacket, coming in at and it comes in at 299.00.
Pros:
This suit is a great suit for them warm summer day because is a very good breathable suit. In a little bit or a medium amount of rain, it works really well. On windy, cold days it deflects the wind with the outer shell and wind-proof zippers.
Cons:
On very cold days the frigid temps will cut through. If you wear layers though you’ll be ok. The suit also has some trouble with the harder rains. Overall, it’s still a good suit for the money.
Overall
You won’t be disappointed with any of these rain suits, but my personal choice is the Simms Challenger. It’s a quality suit with everything a fisherman needs. And at the price point, it’s a great value too.
Hope you all enjoyed the review!
