Meet your Pilot: Kyle Chmilnitzky

March 1, 2019

When you’re in a plane with someone for a few hours, flying deep into the Canadian Wilderness, it’s important to know your pilot. Kyle Chmilnitzky has been flying with Nestor Falls Fly-In Outposts for a few years now, and he’s been a huge help! Don’t let that last name intimidate you ‚Äì Kyle is as friendly as they come!

Not only does he fly one of our Otters, but he also helps with general cabin upkeep, travels to sports shows, and even builds a dock or two.

We asked Kyle a few questions about his experience at Nestor Falls Fly-In. Next time you’re flying with him you’ll know a little bit more about him.

How did you get started flying?
I got my pilots license at Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

What brought you to work at Nestor Falls?
I came to work at Nestor Falls Fly-In because of the opportunity to fly the Turbine Otter. I also liked the fact that the cabins were new and well kept.

Which lake is your personal favorite to fish?
I can’t pick just one. My top four are:
Onepine
Herod
Mallette
Keeper

Besides flying and fishing, what are your other hobbies? Hunting, woodwork/carpentry, snowplowing, and ATV-ing. Like everyone here, I love the outdoors.

What do you do in the winter when the Nestor Falls Fly-In planes are grounded?
During the winter I travel to sport shows in the US for the company. Being the chief pilot we have a lot of paper work to keep up on and ordering parts we need to keep the planes flying in the summer.

It’s also my chance to spend time with the family and friends that I don’t see much during the summer. I also enjoy icefishing.

We’re so glad that Kyle works with us here at Nestor Falls Fly-In Outposts. Next time you come in, be sure to say hello!
