800+ Walleye over 4 days on Larus Lake

January 4, 2018

Kirk and Craig Cavanaugh visited Larus Lake this summer, and the fishing was superb. They released more than 800 walleye over the course of 4 days, not counting the ones they cooked up and ate. It might be winter now, but getting letters like this makes us all the more anxious to get the planes in the air and the boats in the water. Spring, are you here yet?

Fishing was great as always. We caught and released over 800 walleye on our 4 day trip, averaging around 20″, and a couple that hit 25″. We caught them jigging with crawlers, minnows, and leaches. They seemed to be hanging out on bars between 15 and 30 feet deep. Craig did manage to get a 40″ Northern on a Walleye!!

The fires weren’t on the lake, but they were in the area. We saw billowing smoke plumes during the day and glowing treelines at night. The northern lights were out one night as well.

The bar by the cabin has an eagle that’s been hanging around. It’ll drop down and catch smaller, injured fish. Sometimes it swooped within 20 feet of the boat – really something to see.

Thanks Kirk! We’re glad you and Craig had such a successful trip. It’s always good to hear that the wilderness put on a great show!

Escape to the Wilderness,
Dave & Michelle
