Where is my Sunshine?

December 29, 2018

Welcome to the winter edition of the Nestor Falls blog!

We all know that the Canadian Geese migrate south during the winter months, but did you know that the practice is also tradition for many Canadians? Lots of our friends chase the sun southward, hoping to get a little bit of warmth in their bones.

It seems like we haven’t seen the sun in weeks, which is worse than it just being cold. Even when the weather is sub-zero, the sun on your face will cheer you up. And if you’re brave enough to face the cold temperatures, Nestor Falls has some great winter outdoor activities.

The winter started off rainy, but it’s getting colder. The snow can’t be far behind. Even though the ice roads aren’t quite open yet, I’m sure they will be soon. As the lakes start freezing over, fishermen start gearing up and going out on the ice to start fishing for crappie. If you’ve never ice fished, I recommend trying it. It’s a completely different experience than fishing from a boat or even from the dock.

Hunting season just ended on December 15th. Kyle managed to bag his 10 point buck, but Dave and Mike only had Doe tags. There was too much competition with all the wolves they’ve seen out there while hunting. In fact, we had one come right up to our front yard the other day! Thank Goodness I didn’t have Ruby here at the house with me. We really need to do something about them or we won’t have any wildlife left.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and that you got to enjoy some cherished time with family and friends. And maybe you even got a little sunshine.

Escape to the Wilderness!
