Bass are Biting on Kay Lake

Mike Britt and his group headed out to Kay Lake to look for some nice-sized smallmouth bass. “We did catch some nice bass in Kay, up to 18″, mostly on topwater lures,” he said. “I think they were getting ready to spawn in the shallows. It’s a fun way to catch smallies!”

Mike succeeded in landing some nice muskies in the 32-34″ range as well ‚Äì he caught several of them while casting for bass without steel leaders. He was fishing with the Roderick brothers, Steve and Ken, veteran bass fisherman who had never caught a muskie. The first day they set out ‚Äì but forgot to take a landing net. The guys hooked a nice muskie while casting for bass, but didn’t know how to land it! Steve and Ken had to let that muskie go ‚Äì but after that, they never forgot their net. A tough lesson to learn!

Guests at Kay Lake outpost have the option to go over to Anstey Lake ‚Äì they can go for a 150-yard hike in order to find a boat and motor along with superb, secluded fishing. “Once again, we didn’t get into Anstey Lake,” Mike said. “I couldn’t convince anyone else to brave the ‘skeeters!'” Maybe next year, Mike!
